Gurudeva Poster

RM7.00

This is not an ordinary painting, but a rare and sacred one depicting a mystical vision which Gurudeva Sivaya Subramuniyaswami had while meditating in California in 1957, at the time he was opening the headquarters of the first Saivite Hindu church in America, which he founded in 1949. He inwardly saw Lord Siva Nataraja dancing forcefully on the top of his head, listened to the ankle bells and heard the pounding beat of the Damaru drum and the rhythm of the Holy Feet as they measured out the Cosmic Dance of creation, preservation and destruction. That profund vision has been captured by Mrs. Saroja Nagarathnam of Chennai, South India. Beginning with temple ceremonies and blessings, the artist painstakingly wrote, in Tamil and English, hundreds of thousands of mantrams. Every single line and shade was created by scribing the hallowed syllables, so tiny they are barely visible to the unaided eye, even on the original which is three feet high. Two forms of the panchakshara mantram were used—Sivayanama for Siva and Gurudeva and Namasivaya for the other elements. Lords Ganesha and Muruga are present as the elephant and peacock. With Mount Kailas looming in the starry night sky, the Satguru is seated on the banks of the River Ganges, his yogic gaze turned upward and inward, flooded with the rapture of Siva consciousness. 8 1/2" x 11" (21.5cm x 27.8cm)
